Who was Saint Elizabeth of Hungary?
Saint Elizabeth of Hungary was born in 1207 to the King of Hungary and a Bavarian mother. She became known for her charity to the poor and her dedication to the sick. Married to Louis IV of Thuringia, she used her wealth to support charitable causes, building hospitals, and feeding the hungry. After her husband's death, Elizabeth joined the Third Order of St. Francis, living a life of poverty and service. She passed away at the age of 24 and was canonized as a saint just four years later, in 1235. Her feast day is celebrated on November 17, and she is the patron saint of charities, widows, and young brides.
