Saint Clare Of Assisi Poster
Who was Saint Clare of Assisi?
Saint Clare of Assisi, born Chiara Offreduccio in 1194, is a revered figure in Christian history known for her radical commitment to poverty and her close association with Saint Francis of Assisi. At the age of 18, inspired by Francis' preaching, Clare left her wealthy family to live a life of poverty and piety. She founded the Order of Poor Ladies, later renamed the Poor Clares, which was devoted to Franciscan ideals of extreme poverty and simplicity. Clare led her order from a convent in San Damiano, where she embraced a life without property, relying on alms and the generosity of the community, which was revolutionary at the time.
Her devotion influenced many, and her leadership was characterized by her compassion and dedication to her sisters in the order. Clare was canonized in 1255, only two years after her death. She is the patron saint of eye disease, goldsmiths, laundry, and needleworkers, celebrated for her vision of a more spiritual and less materialistic world.
