Who was Saint Dymphna?

Saint Dymphna is revered in Christian tradition as a beacon of hope for those suffering from mental illnesses, neurological disorders, and emotional distress. Born in Ireland in the 7th century, Dymphna was the daughter of a pagan king and a devout Christian mother. After her mother's death, Dymphna fled to Geel, Belgium, to escape her father’s deteriorating mental state and his oppressive intentions. Her father, in his madness, eventually found and killed her when she refused to return with him. Dymphna's martyrdom led to her veneration, and she is believed to bring comfort and miraculous cures to those with mental health challenges who seek her intercession.
