Who was Saint Hyacintha of Mariscotti?

Saint Hyacintha, also known as Hyacintha Mariscotti, Hyacinth, or Giacinta Marescotti, was a nun in the Franciscan Third Order Regular. Born into nobility in Vignanello, Italy, in 1585, she initially lived a very relaxed life, even in the convent. However, after a personal conversion experience following a severe illness, she adopted a life of profound penance and service. Renouncing her former way of living, she slept on the ground, ate meager meals, and devoted herself to caring for the sick and the poor. Her life became a model of Franciscan simplicity and charity.

Hyacintha's dedication led her to become the patron saint of those rejected by religious orders and, posthumously, of her home town.
