Who was Saint Scholastica?

Saint Scholastica is venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Churches. According to tradition, she was born in Italy in 480 AD and was the twin sister of Saint Benedict of Nursia, the founder of Western monasticism. Scholastica dedicated her life to God from an early age. She is the founder of the women's branch of Benedictine Monasticism and led a convent near her brother's monastery at Monte Cassino. Scholastica is remembered for her deep devotion to God and her brother. Her feast day is celebrated on February 10th. One of the most touching stories about her is the account of her last meeting with Saint Benedict, where, when her brother was about to leave to go back to his own monastery, she prayed for God to intervene so they could continue their discussions on spiritual matters. A sudden thunderstorm prevented Benedict from returning to his monastery, allowing the siblings to spend more time together before she passed away. Saint Scholastica is the patron saint of nuns, convulsive children, schools, and tests.
